Joaquin Phoenix changes Bible story while playing Jesus

Actor Joaquin Phoenix plays Jesus in a new movie revolving around the life of Mary Magdalene. In the movie, Phoenix took liberty with one of the miracles of Jesus.

In John 9, Jesus heals a man who had been born blind. In John 9:6, the process by which Jesus heals the man is described as follows: “he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud.”

Bible classes and public schools

Indiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida all have proposed laws which would either compel or encourage schools to offer elective classes on the Bible.

No book has influenced America and western civilization as much as the Bible. It is foundational to our laws, ethics, and worldview. It’s references and allusions in film, literature and art are innumerable. The Bible influences our language. Many of our most beloved stories play on Biblical themes.

I recently had a friend ask me a question about a verse in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Paul will have passages where every verse seems to have different possible interpretations and where they can seem impossibly difficult. As I was researching this complicated passage, I couldn’t help but think “The Old Testament is so much simpler!”
