Sermon: First kings first – 1 Samuel 8:1-22

In the book of First Samuel, the Israelites had been in the Promised Land but had never had an earthly king. They hadn’t needed one. God had been their king who had led and provided for his people. In this passage, the people demand that they have a king to be like all the other nations. They’re warned that it will not ultimately be good for them but the people still insist.
