Apoloigst, theologian Norman Geisler dies at 86

Norman L. Geisler, a 20th century giant in Christian apologetics, theology, philosophy, and ethics passed away on Monday at the age of 86.

He was an author, contributor, or editor of 127 books in his prolific academic career. He taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and Dallas Theological. He was part of the committee that wrote the Chicago Statement of Biblical Inerrancy in 1978. He served as president of the Evangelical Theological Society and founded the International Society of Apologetics and two seminaries: Southern Evangelical Seminary and Veritas Seminary.

Geielser had retired from ministry in May.

Philosopher J.P. Moreland told Christianity Today “He was a tireless worker for the Kingdom and a brother who was faithful to the end. We have lost a giant and the world is worse off for his departure.”

Ravi Zacaharias will be speaking at Geisler’s funeral and issued a statement saying “I owe more to him than anyone else for teaching me how to do apologetics for the Christian worldview. His death is a loss beyond words.”

He was survived by his wife of 65 years, six children, fifteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
